Mills Lodge No. 624, and Wellons Chapter No. 167, O.E.S., com bined their talents recently with a birthday party for Brother Henry F. Mitchell. Re freshments of ice cream and birthday cake were served and Brother Mitchell received several gifts among which was a plentiful supply of stick candy of which he is especial ly fond. Brother Mitchell, who reached his 90th birthday August 15 was awarded his 50-year Pin January 22, 1970. Still very active in his lodge and community. Brother Mitchell is a strong supporter of Oxford Orphanage and tells of hauling watermelons by mule and wagon to the campus at Oxford. Grand Master Walsh Honored By 50th District Masons of the 50th Masonic District honored M.‘. W.'. Maurice E. Walsh, Grand Master of Masons in North Caro lina, and Mrs. Walsh, with a testimo nial dinner on Saturday, September 12, 1970 in the banquet hall of the North Wilkesboro Elks Club. The 50th Masonic District, the Grand Master’s home district, is comprised of Liberty Lodge No. 45, Wilkesboro; North Wilkesboro Lodge No. 407, North Wilkesboro; Traphill Lodge No. 483, Traphill; and Mt. Pleasant Lodge No. 673, Champion. This was indeed a momentous occa sion, as over 350 Brethren and their ladies from all sections of North Caro lina, gathered to help the 50th District pay tribute to Most Worshipful Brother and Mrs. Walsh. W.'.Brother Joe Huffman, D.D.G.M. of the 60th District was Master of Cere monies. We believe Brother Stephens, who is featured in this month’s paper, is the oldest Mason in the state. We would ap preciate any information about other elderly Brethren. Mt. Olive Lodge No. 208 Honors Veteran Members By Harvey C. McPhail 50-Year Veteran On September 1, 1970, Mt. Olive Lodge No. 208 honored its Past Masters at a communication in the lodge hall. There were 20 Past Masters in attend ance, and all were recognized for their service to Masonry and Mt. Olive Lodge. Four 50-year veterans were also recog nized during the evening, together with one 50-year veteran of the Scottish Rite. Brother L. R. Sharpe of St. John’s Lodge No. 13, Kenansville was the featured speaker, and he brought a very timely message. Dinner was served by members of the local chapter. Order of The Eastern Star. Brother P. Berry, P.M., master of cere monies and a 50-year Masonic Veteran, discuss “old times” at the testimonial honoring Brother Stephens on receipt of his 60-year Diamond Jubilee Award. Perquimans Lodge No. 106 Honors Oldest Member Cecil E. Winslow, Sec. On August 18, 1970 fifty members of Perquimans Lodge No. 106, Hertford, N. C. honored Brother P. L. Stephens, the oldest living member of the lodge, by presenting him his 60-year Diamond Jubilee Certificate and Emblem, Broth er Stephens will be 100 years old on October 27, 1970. Brother Stephens has been a Master Mason 65 years, having been raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on November 20, 1905. Brother M. V. Walker, the oldest living Past Master of Perquimans Lodge No. 106, who joined the lodge the same year that Brother Stephens did, was also present. He is a member of Great Bridge Lodge in Chesapeake, Virginia, and a Past Master of that lodge. Brother Walker is an Honorary Member (Continued on Page Two)
